 Paint is probably one of the easiest projects to start, yet obtaining a flawless application is harder to obtain and requires skill and technique. To fastest way to dramatically change a room would be to give the room a fresh coat of paint and update it with a look that suits your style. Let your personality shine thru and make the space unique. If you’re not too risky, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful shade of white to freshen the room or go bold with black to make a statement. While you’re at it, you can even change the ceiling.

Change the room’s dynamic by selecting tile that adds texture, character, color and size that fits the space. You can add a backsplash to the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, or simply accent a smaller space like a pony wall or the back of an island. Of course, the time needed to complete the project will increase if there is a need to complete demolition but this project is a great opportunity to show creativity.

Improve that outdated bathroom by painting the cabinets and simply changing out the old countertops. Have old 4x4 white tiles, but don’t mind the vanity look? Remove those tiles and update it with a more modern style countertop; no need to change the whole thing. You may be able to simply swap out the countertops, prep and paint the cabinets to give your space a fresh new look. Remember if you want to change out an entire vanity set, you may encounter spacing variances on the floor, plumbing patterns differences with the pipes, baseboards and issues with simply a wall being out of square.

Contingent the hardware is already there, changing out the lighting can be a very easy change to your space. Lighting sets the mood in your home and we’re not just talking about the light bulb type. Add elegance to a space with richer materials like gold and bronze, add simplicity with clear glass or a statement black fixture, or add a unique light that adds creativity with a BOLD light or by creating your own pendants. Changing out the lighting not only changes the ambience but adds character to the space.

The texture and creativity of wallpaper is unmatched. Wallpaper adds an element that paint cannot. The biggest problem with wallpaper was the removal and permanency. Peel and stick wallpaper is such a happy medium. It can be applied in spaces that are simply rented, or because you don’t want to commit to such a drastic change. There are thousands of options to transform your space with little effort and the ability to change your mind and do it all again later. All the options below I’ve used in my own home.

Whether for function, privacy, texture, creativity, or color. Adding window coverings like roman shades, sheer shades, shutters and even curtains and mini blinds can be a weekend project depending on the number of windows you want to tackle. Know your measurements, check it twice or three times, and make sure you decide if you want the coverings on the inside sill or outside. If you’re willing to take your time to ensure a flawless installation, then this would be a good project to tackle.

WOODCORE SHUTTERS: Behr Premium Plus Brook Gren Satin

Crown molding doesn’t have to be super ornate and overpowering. Framing out elements within a room really does add a sense of elegance and finish. Choose the right size of molding and plan to do some advanced measurements. More importantly - take your time and don’t rush this project. It can be quite tricky to make sure you have the right angles. If crown is a little more than you’d like to tackle, try updating your baseboards or just the trim around your doors & windows. Remember, larger trim makes a bigger statement, primed molding needs to be painted, painted molding can save you time, and use a PVC or damp-resistant trim in all bathroom and kitchen projects.
